Time Flies When.....

...you're really busy! I can't believe that it has already been a week since we moved into our new house. Progress is gradual, but moving forward. Tomorrow my parents are coming out to help with the long list of projects as well as we have an appointment for the cable guy! Yeah! Thanks to the crew again for setting us up with broadcast and dvds, but god bless the cable guy. You don't realize how much you use the internet until you don't have it! Being without cable has been interesting... tough, but interesting. Last night we watched this special on channel 5 about urban sprawl. Being one of my motivations to go into social work, I was highly intrigued, however, the special was only a half hour long so it didn't really go into too much depth on the impacts. It did include a segment on Winghaven and New Town in St. Charles... I find it so odd... New Town is supposed to be set up like a city neighborhood- so why don't people just move to the city! Argh. Ok, I'll step off my soap box.

So, tomorrow night we are having Katie and Ian as well as our ex-neighbor Kate over for a little BBQ, so if any of you county folk are interested... Come on down to the city! Don't dress too nice- we might put you to work... :)

End of an Era

So, there have actually been moments lately when I think to myself, "This would be a great thing to put up on my blog!" (I'm sure that Susan is very proud.) The catch has been that with all the chaos of moving, I have not had access to the vital equipment necessary. So, with that said, I only have so much time at work to update... Here's a brief summary...

So, the transition from apartment dweller to homeowner was not a smooth as it had been in my head. And with the fourth shift of generous helpers gone by Sunday night, Matt and I are now left to our own devices to clean up the last details. It was so weird coming home from work, getting off at a different exit, and pulling into a strange place Monday... What was even worse was when I went to the apartment to gather the last minute things, even without all of our belongings, that place still felt like home... I guess it just hasn't sunk in yet. I guess I shouldn't expect it to happen overnight after spending 3 1/2 years on Shaw Blvd.

The good news is that we have been making additional progress on the new house everyday! Monday, Matt got our new washer and dryer working (after three trips to the hardware store) and I started organizing our clothes and hooked up the computer (still without internet until Saturday). I am really glad that we made the effort to paint before moving because we have so much stuff everywhere that I don't think that it would have ever gotten done...

Still left on the ever growing to do list... Dry-lock the basement, finish painting the kitchen and dining room, mow the lawn, unpack, unpack, and more unpacking... I hope once we get to those last few, it will finally start feeling like our home. Denver's having trouble acclimating... He made it known that he doesn't like being left alone at the new house by getting into the trash. When we went to Target last night, Matt and I decided to get him a special present to ease the pain (nothing like bribery). Matt picked out a plush bone with a rope attached. At first I said we shouldn't spend the money- we're poor homeowners now... But when Matt said that it was for when he and Denver were playing tug, I couldn't deny him!

Another One Bites the Dust

So, as Matt's group is looking to move back to the STL area, more of my friends are moving away... again. This is the second time that Chris and Sarah have attempted to move to Milwaukee in the last year and a half. The last time was early 2006, and while they both love the city (Sarah's a cheesehead by birth), Chris ended up spending more time in STL than Milwaukee due to a band that he was recording at the time. So, the difficult decision was made to move back South. I will say that it was wonderful having Sarah around for the wedding preparations. Well, this time things are different. Chris and Sarah are new homeowners as well, so it won't be as easy to come back this time! They bought a three story building that will serve as recording space as well as living space. Matt and I are hoping to head up North to visit soon, however, with our schedules, it is proving to be more difficult than previously hoped. But it is definitely on for Wisconsin State Fair next year!

With everyone's hectic schedules, it's hard for us to all get together at the same time... It was good charma, I guess, because at the last minute, Chris called me to attend a going away get together at our favorite pan-asian cafe, Zoe's in the Central West End. We all had a great time catching up, saying goodbye, and making plans for the future. Best of luck in the land of cheese! Mmmm... cheese.

Checking In

So, I actually have quite a few things to update everyone on as well as pictures to share, however, I'm not exactly sure where the cable is for the digital camera... Maybe in one of these boxes?
Matt actually took this one on his phone... Malibu is a little confused as to why she is in heaven... We are not usually this nice to her and the land of boxes is great fun for her! More to come later!

The Happy Church Goer

So, who would've thought that a baby's idea of a good time was going to church and being dunked in a bowl of water? Apparently, this was baby Jack's dream day, because he was giggling, squealing, and smiling through the entire baptism.

Matt and I were recently given the honor of becoming God-parents to our youngest nephew, Jackson! Matt was so completely surprised when I told him that all he could say for about two minutes was, "Wow!" As many of you know, we aren't really big church goers, but no worries! We have the moral guidance thing down! I'll be crushed if he ends up to be a republican, though!

I will say that Drew had a tough time dealing with "Jack's Day." He is always such a good big brother, but I think that all the attention just got to him. When we were at the church he hit Jackson. Could've been worse... When I was a baby, Joe bit me. I guess all siblings go through that stage! And I don't hold grudges anymore against Joe... often.
